Letter writing is a timeless way to share joy, gratitude, and stories. For kids, it’s not only about saying thank you—it’s about capturing the excitement of a special moment and putting it into words that last forever.
Here’s an example from Max, a Bondi local who recently celebrated his birthday with a very special gift. Thanks to his new skateboard, he now spends his afternoons at the world-famous Bondi Skate Bowl. Right beside the beach and the filming spot for the TV show Bondi Rescue, the Skate Bowl is an icon that attracts visitors and famous faces from all over the world. For Max, it has become the stage for adventure, courage, and community.
Below is the letter Max wrote to say thank you for his birthday present.
Dear Grandfather,
Thank you SO much for my skateboard—it was honestly the best birthday present ever!
Since the day I unwrapped it, I’ve been riding down to the Bondi Skate Bowl nearly every afternoon after school and on weekends. The bowl is right by the beach, next to where they film the TV show Bondi Rescue. It feels awesome to skate somewhere that’s not just a local spot but a world-famous Bondi icon. Skaters from all over Australia—and even from overseas—come here just to try it out.
At first, I was nervous about dropping into the bowl, because it’s pretty big and the pros make it look so easy. But after a few tries, I started to get the hang of it. Now I can carve around the curves, zoom up and down the walls, and even try some little jumps. Every time I land a trick, I feel like I’ve won a gold medal!
One of the coolest parts is the people I meet at the skate park. Bondi is full of surprises—sometimes you’ll see famous skaters showing off their moves, or even celebrities hanging out to watch. I couldn’t believe it the other day when I spotted a pro skater I’d only ever seen online. He gave me a thumbs up after I nailed a run, and it made my whole week! Living in Bondi means I get to be part of that energy all the time.
What makes the Skate Bowl even more fun is its location. While I’m skating, I can see the surf and hear the waves crashing. Sometimes, lifesavers from Bondi Rescue walk past, and I feel like I’m skating in the middle of a TV show! There’s nowhere else in the world quite like it.
Your skateboard has given me so much joy. It’s not just a toy—it’s my ticket to adventures, new friends, and endless fun. I’ve learned that skating isn’t just about tricks, it’s about courage, balance, and never giving up.
So thank you again for such an incredible gift. You didn’t just give me a skateboard—you gave me the chance to feel like a real Bondi skater. I can’t wait for you to come watch me at the bowl one day—I’ll show you my best moves!
With heaps of love and gratitude,
Max
