Woollahra 2026 ANZAC Day Writing Competition: Honouring Stories Through Words

In the lead-up to ANZAC Day 2026, Woollahra Council is inviting young voices from the community to take part in a meaningful tradition that blends reflection, creativity, and remembrance.

Mayor Cr Sarah Dixson is encouraging local primary and high school students to enter the 2026 ANZAC Day Writing Competition, submitting original stories or poems that honour the spirit of ANZAC. This special initiative gives students the opportunity to express their understanding of courage, sacrifice, and community through the power of writing.

What makes this competition truly unique is the chance for winning entries to be shared with the wider community. The selected works will be read aloud during the ANZAC Day wreath laying ceremony, creating a powerful moment where young perspectives become part of a deeply respected local event.

✉️ Why It Matters

ANZAC Day is a time for reflection and gratitude, and this competition offers a meaningful way for young people to connect with its significance. Whether inspired by family history, community stories, or personal reflections, each piece of writing contributes to keeping the ANZAC legacy alive for future generations.

For World Letter Writing Day, this event is a reminder that writing—whether a letter, poem, or story—has the power to preserve memories, honour the past, and bring communities together.

Encourage your child or students to take part and put their thoughts into words. Their story could become part of Woollahra’s ANZAC Day remembrance in 2026.
