A Letter to My Lovely Neighbours: What Moving House Taught Me

By Sophie — a mum who found calm, connection, and a love of letter writing amid the chaos of moving. “So much of moving is about letting go — but letter writing helps you hold on.” Dear Neighbours, I hope this letter finds you well — and that the jacarandas are still blooming along our street. Writing this feels a little surreal. The house is quieter now, the boxes are (mostly) unpacked, and I’m finally catching my breath after what can only be described as the marathon of moving. Moving house when you’re a mum really is like running a…

Hidden Stories in Paint: Bondi Pavilion’s Letters from the Past

Bondi Pavilion has long been more than a landmark by the sea—it’s a place where generations have gathered, swum, celebrated, and written their own chapters in Bondi’s story. During its recent restoration, something unexpected was revealed: words from the past, carefully preserved beneath layers of paint. As conservation teams worked to repair the building, they uncovered original hand-painted signage dating back decades. Among the discoveries were faded directions to the Turkish & Hot Sea Water Baths, the Bondi Junior Lifesaving Club (then known as the “Life Boys”), and the Pavilion’s central entry. Though incomplete and weathered, these signs are living…

Now that the full transcript of Obama’s letter has been made public, we’re sharing it in full so readers can reflect on the words one president chose to leave for the next.
