There’s something timeless about writing a letter—taking the time to reflect, remember, and carefully shape your thoughts on paper. On World Letter Writing Day, we celebrate this beautiful, heartfelt tradition and the way it connects us to one another across generations.
But some memories go beyond words.
The laughter in an old home video. The warmth in a faded photograph. The joy of flicking through childhood holiday slides or watching a grainy VHS birthday party. These moments tell our stories too—and they deserve to be preserved, just like the letters we write.
That’s why this World Letter Writing Day, we invite you to take memory-keeping one step further. Write a letter about a treasured family moment—and then bring that memory to life by digitising your old tapes, slides, negatives or photos. It’s a meaningful, hands-on way to reconnect with your past and ensure those stories stay with you and your loved ones forever.
And the best part? It’s fun.
At Waverley Library, you can access a free Family History Digitisation Station, where you can convert all your precious keepsakes into easy-to-share digital files. Imagine sharing an old home movie with your children for the first time—or sending a scanned photo along with a letter to a relative overseas.
