Is your child aged between 5 and 12 and loves to draw? Let their imagination run wild and be part of one of Sydney’s biggest cultural celebrations — the Sydney Lunar Festival 2026!

We’re inviting young creatives to submit vibrant, imaginative horse drawings to celebrate the Year of the Horse. Selected entries will be proudly displayed outdoors in Haymarket, reaching thousands of festivalgoers!

Why Participate?

This is a fun, creative opportunity for kids to:

  • Be part of a major arts and culture event

  • See their artwork featured in public during the festival

  • Have their drawing printed on a personalised t-shirt

  • Be included in the official Year of the Horse sticker sheet

  • Possibly attend the Sydney Lunar Festival media opening

What Kind of Horse Are We Looking For?

Encourage your young artist to dream big and draw a horse that is:

  • Imaginative and colourful

  • Celebratory of the Lunar New Year

  • Performing – maybe it’s dancing, juggling, or even singing!

  • Playful and cheerful – think happy, cheeky, bold, adventurous

  • Holding a red envelope or lantern

  • Eye-catching and clearly visible from a distance

Each drawing should also include:

  • A name for the horse

  • A one-sentence description of any special skills or personality traits

Drawing Guidelines

  • Use portrait orientation on A3 paper

  • Make the horse the star – no background needed

  • Draw using any materials: pencils, crayons, paints or even digitally (e.g. Adobe Illustrator)

  • Submit original work only – no AI-generated drawings

How to Enter

  1. Submit up to 2 drawings per child

  2. Take a clear photo of each drawing (smartphone is fine!)

  3. Fill out the online entry form

  4. Keep the original drawings safe – we may ask for them if selected

  5. Read the full terms and conditions

  6. Apply by Monday 26 May 2025, 5pm (Sydney time)
