Write a letter to your old home before moving

Dear Home, It feels strange writing to you, as if you were just bricks and walls—but you’ve never been just that. You’ve been the place where life unfolded quietly, day by day. Before the removalists arrive and the last box is carried out, I wanted to pause and say something I didn’t realise needed saying until now… thank you. Thank you for the mornings filled with soft light through the windows. For the familiar creaks in the floor that somehow felt comforting. For holding laughter, conversations, and even the difficult days within your walls. You were there for all of…

That includes the beginning of Dorothy and Mac’s 70-year love story, which was penned in hundreds of love letters spanning five years. Their romance began in 1937, when a 17-year-old Mac met a 14-year-old Dorothy, or – as he liked to call her – his darling Dot. “He kept on asking me to go out…

Why are fine motor skills important for children learning to write?

You can help your child write their letters on lines at home with our tips and activities to support the handwriting practice they do at school. There are many factors at play as your child learns to form and practise their first letters. They’ll need to learn to grasp a pencil correctly and also how to form the letters properly. In addition, they’ll need to judge how much room they need to write their letters.  Can you imagine how many passport forms can’t be used because some-one misjudges how much space they need for their signature? Business booms for Melbourne’s last typewriter repairman, Tom Koska

A little over a year ago, Melbourne typewriter repairman Tom Koska carefully peeled open a letter from a grateful customer. He was used to it, of course — as the last Australian tradesman qualified to recondition these writing relics, many a client had tapped out a message of gratitude. But none was quite like this: “Dear Tom,” the letter began. “Word has reached the shores of the USA of your shop, of your servicing of typewriters and the Down Under Type-O-Verse. “Good on you, Mate. “I hope to return to your island nation and, if possible, your neck of the woods. When I do I will find your shop…
